India's Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested two individuals, Nikunj Pravinbhai Bhatt and Sanjay Kotadia, in connection with the BitConnect cryptocurrency scam. The case involves allegations of kidnapping, Bitcoin extortion, and money laundering. Victims were reportedly forced to surrender 2,254 Bitcoins, 11,000 Litecoins, and approximately 1.45 billion rupees in cash.
Investigations revealed that some of the extorted Bitcoins were converted into Ethereum (ETH) and Tether (USDT) and transferred through multiple wallets. The ED has frozen and seized assets worth about 1.9 billion rupees, including cryptocurrencies, stocks, and cash. To date, the total assets seized or frozen in this case amount to approximately 217 billion rupees, with the investigation ongoing.
