BlackRock Launches Ethereum Staked ETF with 18% Fee on Staking Rewards
BlackRock has introduced its iShares Staked Ethereum Trust (ETHB), which imposes an 18% fee on staking rewards generated by approximately $318 million in staked Ethereum. The trust, launched today, also carries a management fee of 0.25%, temporarily reduced to 0.12% during an introductory period. The 18% commission, shared between BlackRock and Coinbase, equates to roughly 49 basis points of total return at the current Ethereum staking yield of 2.74%.
Industry experts have mixed views on the fee structure. Roy Kashi, CEO of Falconedge, suggests the 18% fee covers necessary costs such as custody and validator fees, while Ethan Buchman, co-founder of Cosmos, considers it reasonable for an institutional product but anticipates a reduction to 15% or 10% over time. Despite the fee being lower than the maximum 25% charged by major crypto platforms, financial advisor Tyrone Ross questions the value of surrendering 18% of staking rewards to BlackRock and Coinbase.
