The Xiangtan County Public Security Bureau in Hunan Province dismantled a cryptocurrency theft ring that used malicious links to steal digital assets, arresting three suspects. The case began on September 4 when local resident Cao reported losing USDT worth 6,814 yuan after clicking an unfamiliar link in a cryptocurrency QQ group.
Investigation revealed that since August, three individuals—Zhou, Chen, and Liang—obtained malicious virus links through Telegram and targeted cryptocurrency discussion groups on QQ and WeChat. They distributed the links within these groups to seize cryptocurrency from accounts of users who clicked them. All three suspects have been criminally detained on suspicion of theft, and the investigation remains ongoing.
