Ng Ka-lee, Executive Director of the Investment Products Division at Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), announced plans to launch an "Innovation Pathway" combining tokenized funds with digital currency to enhance liquidity and treasury management efficiency. Speaking at Hong Kong FinTech Week, Ng revealed that the first batch of tokenized money market funds are already conducting secondary market trading on licensed platforms, with a tokenized gold ETF pilot expected next.
Hong Kong currently has 17 approved tokenized retail products spanning money market funds, gold products, and ETFs, managing US$1.3 billion in assets under management. In the medium to long term, the SFC will promote using tokenized assets as collateral, expand on-chain tokenization of equities and bonds, and explore smart contract applications for investment decisions and automated trading processes.
