The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has unveiled the "ART" framework to support responsible artificial intelligence adoption in the banking sector, aiming to build an accountable, resilient, and trustworthy AI-enabled ecosystem. The initiative includes updated supervisory guidelines incorporating insights from the second phase of its generative AI sandbox.
Under the framework, HKMA will collaborate with Cyberport and the University of Hong Kong to establish an AI training data sharing platform designed with data quality assurance as a core principle. Additionally, the authority will test agentic AI applications through its GenAI Sandbox++ and release a discussion paper proposing a governance framework covering intent-based accountability arrangements, registries for critical AI agents, and effective intervention mechanisms.
