The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has launched Project SAGE to promote the responsible development and application of agentic finance in Hong Kong. Concurrently, the HKMA established an Agentic Finance Expert Panel comprising members from financial institutions, technology service providers, professional services firms, and academia. Project SAGE focuses on four key areas: exploring use cases across B2C (agentic shopping, everyday payments), B2B (procurement, treasury management), and M2M (paying for digital services on a usage basis); studying agent identity verification mechanisms such as "Know Your Agent (KYA)"; promoting discussion on interoperability standards; and examining legal and regulatory issues including governance arrangements, legal liability, and consumer protection.
