Hackers have stolen over 2.1 million identity verification images from Discord's third-party Zendesk support system and are threatening to leak them unless a ransom is paid. The breach, which occurred on September 20, involved 1.5 terabytes of data, including passport and driver's license photos used for age verification.
Discord confirmed the unauthorized access to its Zendesk instance but assured that its own servers were not compromised, and no passwords or private messages were exposed. Cybersecurity group VX-Underground has shared samples of the stolen data, indicating that the attackers are extorting Discord to prevent a public release.
