Google Cloud has launched its Level 1 blockchain, GCUL, which is currently in the private testnet stage. GCUL is designed to serve as a neutral infrastructure for finance, featuring Python-based smart contracts. The platform aims to provide a native commercial bank on-chain currency, 24/7 capital markets infrastructure, and payment and agency capabilities. Google plans to eventually open GCUL to its entire network, potentially reaching billions of users and hundreds of institutional partners.
Earlier this year, GCUL announced a pilot program for tokenized assets in collaboration with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). Further technical details about the blockchain are expected to be released in the coming months.
