A vulnerability in Paradigm's Ethereum execution layer client, Reth, has caused outages for nodes using the client, according to Paradigm CTO Georgios Konstantopoulos. The issue, which occurred at block 2327426, affects Reth versions 1.6.0 and 1.4.8. Paradigm has provided instructions for node restoration on its GitHub page, though the root cause is still under investigation.
Reth, developed by Paradigm and written in Rust, is designed for performance and modularity. It currently represents 5.4% of Ethereum execution-layer clients, limiting the impact of the vulnerability. Execution-layer clients are crucial for processing transactions and maintaining blockchain integrity. The vulnerability may prevent some nodes from validating blocks and synchronizing with the network.
