Ethereum's core developers have announced the Fusaka upgrade, scheduled for December 3, which aims to significantly boost the blockchain's scalability. The upgrade will introduce peer data availability sampling (PeerDAS), enabling Layer 2 blockchains to post more data to Ethereum's mainnet, potentially increasing throughput by eight times. This enhancement will reduce data storage requirements for Ethereum nodes, allowing for higher transaction capacity while maintaining security and decentralization. Additionally, the upgrade includes proposals to raise the block gas limit, with measures in place to mitigate risks such as denial-of-service attacks. To ensure a smooth transition, the Ethereum Foundation is conducting an audit contest, offering up to $2 million for bug discoveries before the mainnet launch. Testing on the Holesky testnet is set to begin on October 1.
