Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced the latest roadmap for Ethereum at a developer conference in Japan. In the short term, Ethereum plans to increase the mainnet (L1) gas limit to enhance scalability while maintaining decentralization. This will involve tools such as ZK-EVM and block-level access lists. The medium-term focus is on trustless asset transfers and rapid settlement between Layer 2 solutions, promoting Stage 2 Rollup and state read optimization. Buterin also emphasized the importance of on-chain 'write privacy' for applications like payments and voting. The long-term goal is to develop a secure, simple, quantum-resistant, and formally verified streamlined version of Ethereum.
