The Ethereum Research Forum has unveiled a proposal for a "Validator Redirection Yield" mechanism, which would allow validators to allocate 0% to 10% of their staking rewards to support ecosystem infrastructure and public goods. If a majority of validators agree on a specific percentage, it would become mandatory for all. This initiative could generate between 50,000 to 70,000 ETH annually, equivalent to about $120 million, based on current staking levels. The proposal aims to tackle Ethereum's "free-rider" issue but has sparked concerns over potential risks, such as coordinated validator manipulation and conflicts of interest between staking operators and ETH holders. The proposal is still under discussion and has not yet reached the formal voting stage.
