The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has initiated live trading of tokenized securities, marking a significant advancement in Wall Street's adoption of blockchain technology. DTCC, which safeguards over $114 trillion in securities, has developed a system that converts existing securities into blockchain-based digital twins, maintaining the same legal rights as the original assets. This approach contrasts with some crypto platforms that offer tokenized wrappers without legal ownership rights. During the launch, major financial institutions demonstrated various use cases. JPMorgan converted holdings of the Invesco QQQ Trust ETF into tokenized assets and used them to meet margin requirements with CME Group. Additionally, DTCC processed tokenized Treasury transactions, equity trades, and collateral pledges, including the tokenization of the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust. This development underscores DTCC's pivotal role in integrating blockchain technology into U.S. financial markets.
