Xuan Changneng, Deputy Governor of the People’s Bank of China, announced a significant advancement in China's anti-money laundering (AML) efforts, particularly targeting virtual currencies. In 2025, over 2,000 money laundering cases were adjudicated under Article 191 of the Criminal Law, marking a new phase of high-quality development in AML activities.
Since 2022, China has intensified its focus on combating professional and virtual currency-based money laundering, as well as cross-border money laundering. These efforts have improved the quality and efficiency of investigations, prosecutions, and adjudications related to money laundering crimes, according to a statement on the official WeChat account of the People’s Bank of China.
