Indian authorities are investigating celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib and his son Anos Habib for allegedly orchestrating an $800,000 cryptocurrency fraud. The scheme, promoted through their company Follicle Global Company (FLC), promised investors high returns of 50% to 75% annually on investments in Bitcoin and Binance tokens. Despite a search warrant, police were unable to locate Habib at his residence.
The scam reportedly targeted between 100 and 400 investors, leveraging Habib's celebrity status to gain trust. Over 30 First Information Reports have been filed, and a lookout notice has been issued to prevent the suspects from fleeing India. This case is part of a broader trend of crypto crimes in India, including a recent $230 million hack at WazirX and a 200 Bitcoin extortion case resulting in life sentences for 14 individuals.
