A 22-year-old man from California has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for his role in a money laundering scheme involving a multi-state criminal gang. The group reportedly stole over $263 million in cryptocurrency through social engineering attacks. The man admitted to laundering $3.5 million, assisting in converting cryptocurrency to fiat, and renting luxury homes in Los Angeles and Miami for the gang's extravagant lifestyle. The illicit funds were spent on luxury cars, designer watches, and exorbitant nightclub bills. Law enforcement has seized several luxury vehicles, and nine individuals have pleaded guilty in connection with the case.
