Ronald Spektor, a 23-year-old from Brooklyn, has been charged with orchestrating a phishing scam that stole $16 million in cryptocurrency from approximately 100 Coinbase users. Spektor allegedly impersonated Coinbase staff to deceive users, subsequently laundering the stolen funds through mixers and gambling platforms. He reportedly shared details of his activities on Telegram. Authorities have recovered about $505,000 in cash and cryptocurrency. Coinbase played a crucial role in tracking the stolen assets and identifying Spektor.
