A British investor recovered Bitcoin originally purchased in 2011 through UK exchange Britcoin, later renamed Intersango, after losing access when the platform stopped trading in late 2012 and went offline in early 2014.
The investor had spent about £1,500, or roughly $2,000, buying Bitcoin at less than $4. CEL Solicitors used crypto tracking software from its sister company to identify a wallet believed to belong to an Intersango user holding more than 5,500 BTC, worth about $421 million. The investor recovered about $45,000 worth of Bitcoin, now valued at approximately $4.5 million.
CEL Solicitors said other former Intersango users may be able to recover funds if they can prove ownership.
