The Central Bank of Brazil has implemented stricter licensing requirements for virtual asset service providers, mandating independent financial audits as of June 1st. These audits must assess the financial health of the company and its compliance with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations. Auditors, who must be registered with the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission, will also evaluate whether platforms segregate customer assets from company funds, their risk management strategies, and employee training programs. New applicants, including cryptocurrency exchanges, brokerage firms, and custody services, must adhere to these audit requirements from the beginning of the licensing process. Existing license holders are required to undergo audits upon license renewal. This move follows Brazil's 2022 legislation that brought virtual asset services under central bank oversight and the establishment of a licensed provider category in November 2025. Additionally, Brazil has banned 28 betting platforms for non-compliance with derivatives trading rules and will prohibit electronic forex trading providers from using cryptocurrencies for international remittances starting October 1st.
