Jack Dorsey's payments company Block has reached a preliminary agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice to resolve an anti-money laundering investigation, totaling approximately $964 million. The settlement involves a deferred prosecution agreement for three years regarding allegations that Block failed to maintain an effective anti-money laundering program in violation of the Bank Secrecy Act.
Under the terms disclosed in a regulatory filing on Tuesday, the net payment will be about $764 million after accounting for previously accrued funds. Block had set aside $526 million by the end of June and increased this accrual to $764 million by the end of September. The agreement still requires final court approval to take effect.
