Bithumb has successfully recovered 620,000 BTC mistakenly airdropped to users during a rewards distribution event on February 6. The error, which involved a significant amount of Bitcoin, was quickly addressed by restricting transactions and withdrawals for 695 customers. Within 35 minutes, over 99% of the erroneously distributed BTC was recovered, with 618,212 BTC reclaimed. The remaining 1,788 BTC, which had been sold, was covered by Bithumb's own assets, ensuring no user losses.
In response to the incident, Bithumb announced compensation measures starting February 8. Users online during the event will receive 20,000 KRW, and those who sold BTC at a low price will be compensated with the price difference plus 10% consolation money. Additionally, a 7-day 0% trading fee discount will be offered from February 9.
