Dutch prosecutors have filed for the bankruptcy of crypto platform Knaken and its affiliate Stichting Knaken Payments, citing public interest. The Rotterdam court received the application as Knaken has been non-operational since early June, leaving approximately 30,000 customers unable to access their crypto assets. The platform, which facilitated euro exchanges with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, lacked the necessary MiCA license from the Dutch Financial Markets Authority. Authorities have initiated a criminal investigation, conducting searches and seizing equipment and assets from Knaken's premises, though no arrests have been made. This development coincides with the end of the EU's MiCA transition period on July 1, after which unauthorized platforms cannot legally serve EU customers.
