Arizona lawmakers have advanced two bills aimed at exempting digital assets from property taxes, contingent on voter approval in 2026. The Arizona Senate Finance Committee narrowly passed Senate Bill 1044, which proposes exempting virtual currency from state property taxation, and Senate Concurrent Resolution 1003, which seeks to amend the state constitution to exclude digital currency from taxable property definitions. Both measures, sponsored by Republican Senator Wendy Rogers, now move to the Senate Rules Committee for constitutional review. If the resolution clears the legislature, the constitutional amendment will appear on the November 2026 ballot, allowing voters to decide on the tax policy. The proposed bills would not affect income tax treatment for crypto holdings. This legislative effort follows previous vetoes by Governor Katie Hobbs, who rejected broader crypto-related bills but approved narrower measures, such as allowing the state to hold unclaimed digital assets in their original form.
