During ETH Prague 2026, Liberland, a self-proclaimed micronation, awarded Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin its highest honor, the First-Class Order of the Liberland Star. The award was presented by Liberland President Vít Jedlička at a side event in Prague, recognizing Buterin's contributions to blockchain technology and digital governance. Buterin expressed gratitude to the Liberland community and anticipated future collaborations. Liberland, established in 2015 on a disputed land between Croatia and Serbia, has long attracted the crypto community with its on-chain governance initiatives. Although not formally recognized by any sovereign nation, it continues to draw interest from libertarians and blockchain developers. The micronation's ties to the crypto industry were further strengthened when Tron founder Sun Yuchen was elected Prime Minister in 2024, promoting Liberland as a digital governance experiment.
