Celsius founder Alexander Mashinsky has reached a settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), resulting in a permanent ban from promoting products or services related to asset deposits, exchanges, investments, or withdrawals. As part of the settlement, Mashinsky is required to pay a $10 million fine. A ruling by Judge Denise Cote of the Southern District of New York indicates that the FTC's $4.72 billion restitution order against Mashinsky is largely suspended. However, this suspension could be lifted if Mashinsky fails to disclose significant assets, misrepresents asset values, or omits crucial information in his financial disclosures, at which point the full judgment would become due immediately. In May 2025, Mashinsky was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to commodities and securities fraud.
