Evan Tangeman, a 22-year-old from Newport Beach, California, has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for his role in laundering money for a group known as the "crypto kids." The group used social engineering tactics to impersonate employees of cryptocurrency exchanges like Coinbase and Gemini, tricking victims into revealing account information. This scheme resulted in the theft of over $263 million in crypto assets. Tangeman admitted to laundering at least $3.5 million and assisting in leasing luxury properties. His compensation included luxury cars such as a Lamborghini and a Porsche. Authorities seized a 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost and a Porsche GT3 RS from his residence and reported that Tangeman instructed associates to destroy electronic devices after some members were arrested.
