Trump said strong employment data should have lifted markets, but stocks fell because of persistent inflation concerns that he argued are suppressing growth. In a post on Truth Social, he said the U.S. has embraced a flawed policy approach in which stronger economic performance is met with measures that restrain expansion.
Trump said “growth does not cause inflation” and argued the U.S. should be targeting 15% to 20% GDP growth rather than 2% to 4%. He also said the country should have the world’s lowest interest rates because it drives the global economy, adding that every 1 percentage point increase in rates costs the U.S. $650 billion annually and that lower rates would help reduce the debt burden.
