Mexican authorities seized an illegal cryptocurrency mining operation in a remote mountainous building in Tlautla, Puebla state, uncovering 300 GPUs, 80 medium-voltage terminals and eight satellite antennas.
Authorities are investigating whether the facility was stealing electricity from a nearby hydroelectric plant. It is the fourth crypto farm discovered in the region since early last year, with three others previously found near a hydroelectric plant in northern Puebla.
Local residents said the equipment noise could be heard from one kilometer away. Security analyst David Saucedo said such operations require technical expertise and well-funded backing, while Chainalysis expert Caio Motta said similar sites are often located where electricity is extremely cheap or where organized crime can enable power theft and large-scale mining infrastructure.
