The global billionaire population rose to a record 3,795 in 2025, while total billionaire wealth climbed 12.8% year over year to an all-time high of $15.1 trillion, according to new data from wealth intelligence firm Altrata cited by Fortune. The combined wealth figure is close to one-quarter of the total market capitalization of S&P 500 constituents.
The report said the AI investment boom was the main driver of wealth growth, lifting the fortunes of many tech billionaires as their companies expanded AI businesses. It also found that 29 billionaires now hold assets exceeding $50 billion, including Larry Page, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos.
Billionaires showed the strongest interest in allocating wealth to sports and philanthropy. A total of 201 individuals own sports teams or have invested in sports franchises, while philanthropy remains a major channel for deploying wealth and social influence.
