The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is experiencing significant leadership changes and upgrade delays as it undergoes a major restructuring. Since February 2026, seven key members, including co-CEO Tomasz Stańczak and veteran contributor Josh Stark, have departed. Stańczak, who focused on privacy and decentralized AI, cited a narrowing executive space as a reason for his exit. Stark, instrumental in several Ethereum upgrades, left to spend time with family.
The departures have raised concerns about the Ethereum ecosystem's stability, particularly as the Protocol team, responsible for Ethereum's core development, undergoes leadership changes. The team is now led by Will Corcoran, Kev Wedderburn, and Fredrik Svantes, who are tasked with advancing the Glamsterdam upgrade, initially set for June 2026 but now delayed to Q3 2026. Despite the upheaval, EF aims to reduce its central role, aligning with Ethereum's vision of decentralized governance.
