DogeOS has launched the first version of its Dogecoin DeFi testnet, currently relying on permissioned sequencers and a Security Council to validate transactions within a trusted execution environment. The platform aims to eventually transition verification responsibilities directly to Dogecoin miners through a proposed upgrade to Dogecoin Core called OP_CHECKZKP, which would enable the network to natively check zero-knowledge proofs.
The OP_CHECKZKP proposal was published in July 2025, but a draft implementation submitted in December still requires further development before activation. DogeOS founder Jordan Jefferson stated that while acquiring DOGE is accessible, building robust DeFi infrastructure is necessary to attract institutional investors following Bitwise's decision to close its Dogecoin ETF.
