The Alephium TokenBridge, an Ethereum cross-chain bridge, was hacked, resulting in the theft of approximately $815,000. The attacker gained control of three out of four Guardian keys, allowing them to forge Verified Authorization Messages (VAA) and execute the attack in about seven minutes. During the breach, the attacker minted 13.76 million Wrapped ALPH, surpassing the total circulating supply before the attack, and transferred assets including USDT, USDC, WBTC, and WETH from the custodial pool.
Currently, the attacker's address retains around $8.15 million in stolen assets and the unbacked Wrapped ALPH. The most significant transaction involved the unauthorized minting of 13.76 million Wrapped ALPH. The incident highlights vulnerabilities in cross-chain bridge security, emphasizing the need for enhanced protective measures.
