A major exploit has targeted the Verus Ethereum bridge, resulting in the theft of over $11.5 million in crypto assets. The attack, identified by Blockaid, involved the transfer of 103.6 tBTC, 1,625 ETH, and nearly 147,000 USDC from the bridge's reserves. The stolen assets were converted into approximately 5,402 ETH, valued at $11.4 million. The attacker utilized wallet address "0x5aBb…D5777" and transferred the funds to "0x65C…C25F9."
Security firm GoPlus highlighted a potential validation bypass vulnerability in the Verus bridge, suggesting the exploit may have involved cross-chain message validation forgery or withdrawal logic bypass. The incident underscores ongoing security concerns in decentralized finance, particularly regarding cross-chain communication and reserve management vulnerabilities. Verus has yet to comment on the breach, while investigators continue to track the stolen Ethereum across multiple wallets.
