A cryptocurrency user lost approximately $305,000 in DAI after falling victim to an address poisoning attack, according to GoPlus Security monitoring. The attacker generated a fake wallet address matching the prefix and suffix of the victim's intended recipient and sent dust transactions to populate the victim's transaction history, tricking them into copying the fraudulent address for a large transfer. GoPlus Security warns that these attacks have become fully automated, encompassing target discovery, address forgery, and money laundering through mixers. Users are advised to never copy addresses directly from historical transaction records, must verify full addresses character-by-character, and should conduct small test transfers before executing large transactions.
