South Korea’s main stock exchange will extend trading for almost all local stocks to 8 p.m. next Monday, compared with the previous regular close at 3:30 p.m. The trial marks the first such move among major Asian exchanges and is intended to attract sustained demand from global investors.
The initiative is part of the Korea Exchange’s plan to begin 24-hour trading in December 2027. The extended session will test whether the market can maintain sufficient liquidity and whether investors need additional trading hours as interest in South Korean stocks cools. Investors and analysts said the longer window could offer greater flexibility and improve access for global participants.
