Pi Network has successfully completed its major Protocol 23 upgrade, marking a significant milestone in its development. The upgrade, which involved transitioning mainnet node operators to version 23, is one of the most technically demanding in the project's history. It included improvements to multiple subsystems, infrastructure optimization, and large-scale data reprocessing.
The transition involved three major infrastructure upgrades: moving from Protocol version v22 to v23, Ubuntu 20 to Ubuntu 24, and PostgreSQL 12 to PostgreSQL 16. These changes aim to enhance scalability, network stability, and database performance. The upgrade also aligns Pi Network closer to Stellar Core v23.0.1, facilitating future support for smart contracts and decentralized applications.
The migration required nodes to rewrite and reprocess existing blockchain data, causing synchronization delays for some operators. However, the upgrade is expected to improve write speed, query execution, and replication efficiency, positioning Pi Network for future growth and decentralization as it enters the final deployment phase of Protocol 23.
