ElizaOS founder Shaw Walters has initiated a GitHub project to reverse-engineer Hyperliquid's closed-source validator node, attracting 46 contributors within six days. The effort aims to build a fully open-source Linux node that can compile from source code, connect to the network, and verify and synchronize chain state. As of now, none of the project's 96 acceptance criteria have been completed, and organizers emphasize it is not official Hyperliquid source code nor a functional running node.
Principia Research separately highlighted validator concentration concerns based on Hyperliquid's public API data: among 27 active validators, five Hyper Foundation nodes collectively control approximately 47.4% of staked amount, with the top three validators—all Foundation-operated—holding over one-third combined. Walters also posted cryptically earlier today that "everything is fun until lawyers get involved," without elaborating further.
