A DexScreener sweep run at 14:47 UTC on Sunday August 23, 2026 returned 72 separate cat-named tokens whose first liquidity pool opened inside the previous 60 hours, spread across Solana, BNB Chain, Base and Robinhood Chain, and 40 of them answer to one name. Thirty-six of the 72 traded under $1,000 across the same 24 hours, thirty-one traded under $100, and twenty traded under a single dollar against posted market capitalizations running from $21 to $58.3 billion.
The rotation is real, and the two tokens actually carrying it were not launched into it. That gap between where the attention went and where the money went is the story, and answering the title takes three things. A working definition of a mascot rotation, a set of checks that separate a market from a screenshot, and the record of the last cat rotation that ran this hot.
What a Mascot Rotation Actually Is
A mascot rotation is a stretch of days when speculative capital concentrates on tokens sharing a visual theme rather than a technology, a founder or a use case. Dog coins were the theme for most of 2021, and cats took over in March 2024 when a token called Cat in a Dogs World crossed a nine-figure valuation within days of launching, which is when the term "cat season" entered trader vocabulary.
The reason the pattern recurs is mechanical rather than mysterious. A mascot is a coordination device that costs nothing to copy, needs no roadmap to explain, and travels through a group chat faster than any technical claim ever could. Deployment is close to free on the launchpads that dominate Solana and its imitators, so the supply of any theme expands to meet demand inside hours rather than quarters, which is exactly what produced 72 tokens in 60 hours. We covered the identical dynamic when a Solana trader's handle became a token in its own right, and it reads better as the anatomy of a meme rotation than as a story about one asset.
Solana still absorbs most of that flow. A DefiLlama pull at 14:51 UTC on Sunday August 23, 2026 puts its trailing 24-hour decentralized exchange volume at $3.73 billion against $1.56 billion on BNB Chain and $1.28 billion on Base, out of $11.63 billion across every chain the tracker covers, so the newer venues host the launches while the older one still clears the trades.
The Two Tokens Carrying the Rotation Opened Their Pools Before August 22
Cets On Gold trades at
0xB0c2aB5af4028461acE3f6e1C33a4eE1404E7777 on BNB Chain, and five eth_call requests to a public node at 14:33 UTC on Sunday August 23, 2026 return Cets On Gold, CETS, 18 for decimals(), exactly one billion tokens for totalSupply(), and a revert on supportsInterface(0x80ac58cd). That last result is the one that matters, because it means the contract does not implement ERC-165 at all, which no NFT collection can say about itself.A CoinGecko pull stamped 14:35:40 UTC on the same afternoon puts CETS at $0.02362589, a market capitalization of $23.15 million and $1.26 million of 24-hour volume, up 71.23% over the trailing day. Its record high of $0.02588849 printed at 11:29:20 UTC that morning against a record low of $0.00953078 at 17:07:20 UTC on Thursday August 20, a 171.6% move inside three sessions, and GeckoTerminal counted 6,722 holders at 13:57:37 UTC with the top ten addresses holding 25.39% of supply.
The mechanic underneath it is the most interesting thing in the rotation. CETS charges a 3% tax on every buy and every sell, and per the project's own documentation 82% of that tax is redistributed to holders in XAUt, the Tether Gold token representing one troy ounce of physical gold in a Swiss vault, paid out automatically once an address accrues four dollars of it. The deepest pool is quoted in XAUt rather than a stablecoin, so a cat meme is running a gold-denominated distribution schedule against a record gold market. It is a per-transaction levy on a fixed supply, which behaves nothing like conventional token inflation, and it pays for exactly as long as the volume lasts.
Thinking Cat sits at
0x7fe995a80075df3dc8ae11a9b82c7fe4202cd87f on Robinhood Chain, the EVM network running under chain ID 4663. The same five calls against that chain's public node at 14:39 UTC return Thinking Cat, HMM, 18 decimals, one billion tokens and another revert, and the Robinhood Chain explorer reads the contract as a token independently. A CoinGecko pull stamped 14:37:40 UTC puts HMM at $0.01252685, a $12.53 million capitalization, $1.41 million of volume, 25.47% gained on the day and 6,886 holders.Neither of them is a weekend launch, and that is the finding.

CETS opened its pool 17 days before the rotation and HMM opened its own five weeks before it. The capital that moved over August 22 and 23 did not go looking for new deployments, it went looking for cat-shaped assets that already had holders, a pool and a chart, and it bid those instead. HMM carries the honest reminder attached to that, because even after gaining a quarter of its value it trades 60.6% below the $0.03177306 record it set at 22:14:10 UTC on Wednesday August 12.
Eighty-Two Thousand Transactions Against an $805,000 Market Cap
The one token that genuinely launched into the rotation is a meta-token about the rotation itself, minted on Solana at `BKaXDgZxUSC9njpX89xpQ5USh2pnK1yzZvgk8Mg7pump` with its first pool opening at 02:58:28 UTC on Sunday August 23, 2026. A `getAccountInfo` query against a Solana RPC node at 14:36 UTC returns a Token-2022 mint with six decimals, a supply of 993,326,669 tokens, and `mintAuthority`, `freezeAuthority` and `updateAuthority` all set to null, which is the clean configuration and the first thing worth checking on any Pump.fun mint. Nobody can print more of it, freeze your balance or rewrite its metadata.
The numbers sitting on top of that configuration are where it gets strange. A DexScreener pull at 14:41 UTC puts the token at an $805,577 market capitalization against $4,943,274 of 24-hour volume across 82,372 transactions, which is 6.14 turns of its entire float in a single day, and GeckoTerminal counted 10,871 holders at 14:36:33 UTC, more than either CETS or HMM, with the top ten addresses holding 6.51% and the deployer holding nothing.
Read those two facts together rather than separately. Wide distribution and a revoked mint are what a fair launch looks like, six turns of the float in twelve hours is what churn looks like, and this token is both at once. A volume-to-capitalization ratio above one describes the same tokens changing hands repeatedly rather than a holder base building a position.
Forty Contracts Share One Name and Most Screens Sort By the Wrong Column
Those same-name contracts run across four chains under the labels Cat Season and Cat Season Club and the tickers CATSZN and CATLIST. A ticker is a text field anybody can write, only the address identifies anything, and a field of near-identical entries is where most of the money in a rotation like this gets lost. Four checks do almost all of the work.

Sort that list by pooled liquidity and the two entries at the top are the ones nobody trades, each posting more than $1.15 million of depth against roughly $8,270 of daily volume. That is somebody spending real money to look credible on a chart page, hoping one confused buyer market-buys into a pool with no other participants. The contract with an actual market ranks third by that column and first by every column that cannot be purchased.
Sort by volume and holders, never by liquidity. Liquidity is a number a deployer chooses, while volume and holder count require other people to show up.
Check when the pool opened. Every entry above was minutes to hours old at the pull, and a pool timestamp is the fastest way to separate a token that has survived something from one that has not been tested yet.
Check that mint and freeze authority are revoked, which takes one RPC call on Solana and means reading the owner functions on an EVM chain.
Gate every all-time-high claim on volume. A record price set on eleven dollars of turnover is an arithmetic artifact rather than a market event, and the last row of that table is the reduction to absurdity, because a contract posting a $58.3 billion capitalization against zero liquidity is publishing a computed number and nothing else.
Two entries show what failure looks like once the volume is real. A Cat Season mint whose pool opened at 02:20 UTC on Saturday August 22 turned $2,884,219 across 100,184 transactions and trades 98.46% below where it started, and a Cat Season Club mint whose pool opened at 07:37 UTC on Sunday August 23 turned $77,598 and is down 99.99%, leaving a capitalization of eighteen dollars.
What Happened to the Two Cat Tokens We Covered on August 18
We published pieces on Basecat and on Catecoin on Tuesday August 18, and the sequel owes readers the scorecard. Basecat was written at a $13.31 million to $13.84 million capitalization on pulls taken at 05:09 and 05:14 UTC that morning, and a DexScreener pull at 14:39 UTC on Sunday August 23 puts it at $30.46 million, a little more than double, though down 11.96% on the trailing day. Catecoin was written at $0.01314 and $12.68 million at 05:12 UTC the same morning, and the same afternoon pull puts it at $0.05734 and $55.29 million, up 336%, on $53.38 million of volume that keeps its own turnover ratio near one.
Neither collapsed, though Catecoin still trades 34.1% below the $0.087055 intraday high it set on August 3, so even the winner carries a drawdown.
Two for two is not a skill claim and should not be read as one. Both had verifiable contracts, real holder counts and pools that were days rather than minutes old, which describes the selection filter rather than a forecast. The contracts from this sweep with a day's turnover under a dollar had none of those properties.
The Last Cat Season Ended on One Morning in November 2024
Popcat set its record high of $2.05 at 07:50:59 UTC on November 17, 2024, and Cat in a Dogs World set its own record of $0.01288153 at 08:03:04 UTC the same morning, twelve minutes and five seconds later. A CoinGecko pull at 14:43:50 UTC on Sunday August 23, 2026 puts Popcat at $0.054552 and a $53.5 million capitalization, 97.3% below that high, and MEW at $0.00042077 and $37.4 million, 96.7% below its own. Michi, the third name from that cohort, peaked on May 16, 2024 and trades 99.9% below it.
That twelve-minute gap is the answer to the question in the title. A mascot rotation does not end token by token as each project fails on its own merits, because there are no merits to fail on. It ends for every member at once, on the morning attention moves somewhere else, and the two largest names of the 2024 cat cohort peaked inside the same quarter of an hour and then spent twenty-one months giving it all back.
So the rotation running across August 22 and 23 will end, and its tokens will not end separately. Nobody can give you the date, and anybody quoting one is guessing. The trader culture that drives these cycles has been through enough of them to know the shape without knowing the timing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is cat season a real thing or just a marketing term?
It is a real and observable capital flow with a silly name. Tokens sharing one visual theme move together and peak together, which is why the term matters to position sizing even though it sounds like a joke, and it is also why exiting one member of a rotation rarely helps if you still hold three others.
How do I tell which contract is the real one when forty share a name?
Sort candidates by 24-hour volume and holder count, then confirm the survivor against the project's own published address and a block explorer before sending anything. Pooled liquidity is the column to distrust, because a deployer can fund a deep pool cheaply and make an untraded contract outrank a traded one.
Does a revoked mint authority make a token safe?
No. It removes one specific attack, the deployer printing more supply, and says nothing about holder concentration, pool depth or what happens when the theme rotates away. Two of the collapsed contracts in this sweep had clean authority settings and still lost 98% or more inside a day.
Are any of these cat tokens available as futures?
No, and that is worth stating plainly. None of the tokens named in this article has a Phemex market, so the links point at Bitcoin and Ethereum perpetuals instead, which give exposure to the broader market rather than to any of these assets.
Bottom Line
The rotation is concentrated in two contracts that opened their pools on July 19 and August 6, not in the 72 that opened inside 60 hours, half of which traded under $1,000 across a full day. Two conditions are worth watching. CETS needs a volume base large enough to keep its gold distribution meaningful, because a 3% transaction tax pays nothing when nobody transacts, and the Solana meta-token needs its 6.14 turns per day to compress toward something resembling holding. The 2024 cohort is the reference case and it is not an encouraging one, with its two largest names down 97.3% and 96.7% from highs set twelve minutes apart. Rotations end at their most crowded moment, and the exit is priced for the number of people who were early, never for the number who arrive at the top.
