Cassius Cuvée on Market Hype, High Leverage and Staying in the Game

Phemex Prime: Institutional Spotlights is a collaborative thought-leadership series co-produced with industry pioneers and institutional executives, delivering strategic insights that cut through market noise.

Cassius Cuvée was an artist before he became a full-time trader. When SPACs took over the market conversation, he turned that moment into SPAC Dream, bringing his music and trading life together. Today, as the founder of The Profit Circle, he still pays close attention to what people are talking about—but says reading the mood is only the beginning of a trade.

In this conversation, Cassius discusses the link between culture and market sentiment, the difference between a leveraged plan and “hopium,” and why no platform can manage a trader’s bankroll for them. His advice to newcomers is also the clearest line of the interview: a small loss leaves you able to take the next opportunity; losing everything does not.

“Being an Artist Keeps Me Tuned In to What’s Going On Around Me.”

Q1. In 2021, your track 'SPAC Dream' blew up Wall Street, caught the attention of billionaire hedge fund titan Bill Ackman on Twitter, and landed you on CNBC Fast Money. Most people would have cashed in on pure entertainment, but you doubled down as a serious, full-time leverage trader. Looking back at that pivotal moment, how did bridging Wall Street high finance with raw hip-hop culture shape the way you read market psychology and institutional liquidity today?

Cassius Cuvée: I've been an artist my whole life. I wrote raps as a kid and released plenty of songs and albums before I ever found finance.

These days I'm a reality rapper, which means I write about whatever is happening in my life. After COVID I became a full-time trader, and I learned the game from people on Twitter and CNBC. So writing SPAC Dream was a natural next step for me, even though it took the financial media by surprise.

It was mostly a homage to everyone who taught me, because I lived and breathed the markets every day, and I still do. It also captured lightning in a bottle. I knew timing was everything, so I rushed to get the song and music video done while SPACs were red hot.

Everyone was stuck at home, retail participation in the markets jumped, and that kind of moment is rare in both human history and financial history.

My songs often teach about trading and finance because that's what my life is about. Being an artist keeps me tuned in to what's going on around me, and that awareness carries over to market sentiment on TV and social media. Sentiment plus chart reading gives me a directional bias, and technical analysis tells me when to enter and exit.

“Trading Is Trading and Risk Management Is Risk Management No Matter Where You Trade.”

Q2. You have deep experience in the funded prop trading space (operating 6-figure evaluation accounts with firms like Breakout Prop), yet you rely on Phemex as your primary hub for leverage and copy trading. Prop firms impose rigid trailing drawdown rules and profit splits, whereas Phemex delivers institutional-grade execution—sub-millisecond order matching, deep order book liquidity during high-volatility spikes, and unrestricted 100x leverage. How do you navigate the trade-off between strict prop firm constraints and Phemex’s frictionless capital efficiency? How should serious traders balance risk across both environments?

Cassius Cuvée: Trading is trading and risk management is risk management no matter where you trade. It doesn't matter if it's on a prop firm or a leverage trading platform like Phemex.

Prop firms do have different rules. For example, you can't adjust your leverage, but on Phemex you can adjust it to fit your personal needs. Prop firms also offer different products with different conditions, so it really is an apples-to-oranges comparison.

Phemex has a lot more tickers to choose from. I also like exploring its different products and thinking about new ways to apply my trading ideas. But whichever environment you're in, the rules of the platform don't replace your own risk management.

“The Difference Between a Gambler and a Sniper Is Hopium, or the Lack of It.”

Q3. In tracks like 'The Premonition', you’ve embedded hard-hitting warnings about market crashes and bad actors. In an ecosystem dominated by influencers shilling 100x meme moonshots to retail, you preach brutal discipline. What is the fundamental difference in mindset between a degenerate gambler using 50x leverage and a calculated sniper using 50x leverage? When a trade turns completely against you, what is your psychological protocol for cutting the loss without revenge-trading?

Cassius Cuvée: My passion is to keep retail from getting rekt. That's why I made Crashing Waves, The Premonition and several other songs and music videos. I warned people about the risks I saw in memecoins because I didn't want regular people to lose their money.

The difference between a gambler and a sniper is hopium, or the lack of it.

If you're trading high leverage, you should be doing it because you have a specific plan for that individual trade—and for every trade. Don't blindly buy without knowing how you plan to exit.

To avoid revenge trading, have a set position size and stick to your plan. You have to make that decision before a loss makes you want to change the rules.

“No Platform Makes Anyone Profitable.”

Q4. You’ve built 'The Profit Circle' community and routed thousands of active traders to Phemex. Beyond marketing headlines, day-in-day-out trading comes down to infrastructure. How critical have Phemex’s core operational mechanics—such as zero-slippage execution during cascading liquidation events, ultra-low latency API/sub-account setups, and reliable copy-trading architecture—been in keeping your community profitable and loyal to Phemex over the years?

Cassius Cuvée: I remember October 10, 2025, when the crypto market sold off sharply. I had several short positions open and take-profit orders set. My Phemex orders executed as expected, so that reliability was huge for me when it mattered most.

I'd rather talk about consistency than promise anything about outcomes, because no platform makes anyone profitable. But it's important to be able to trust that a platform will do what it's supposed to do during a moment of wild volatility.

I have consistently told my community that from day one. It hurts my heart when I hear that a trader lost everything because something went wrong at the platform level.

“Bankroll Management Is Everything.”

Q5. To wrap up: If an aspiring trader is sitting in front of the charts right now, broke and desperate to make it in crypto, what is the single most important rule you would rap or preach to save them from losing everything in their first 90 days?

Cassius Cuvée: Bankroll management is everything. You can survive small losses and come back, but if you lose it all, you're out of the game completely.

I never get FOMO anymore because I know there's always another opportunity in trading. But if you chase without a plan and get rekt, you won't be able to take advantage of the next one.

If you're new, start with small position sizing and get as many reps as possible. Don't use a position size that will hurt you if you lose. A standard rule of thumb is to never risk more than 1% of your bankroll on any trade. That means if you lose the trade, the loss should only knock about 1% off your bankroll.

I also have free educational materials on CassiusCuvee.com for new traders and traders who are struggling with consistency.

The last word

Cassius built a song around a market moment that everyone wanted to be part of. His closing advice points in the opposite direction: you do not have to catch every move. Whether a trade is driven by a chart, a cultural moment or a strong conviction, the question comes first—what happens to your bankroll if you’re wrong?
