What Is PolySwarm (NCT)? The Threat-Intelligence Token

Key Points

What is PolySwarm? Its NCT token pays malware-detection engines for accurate verdicts, and it rose 42.46% in one late-October 2026 day.

PolySwarm (NCT) is a threat-intelligence marketplace whose malware-detection engines stake its NCT token on their verdicts, and NCT rose 42.46% in a single late-October 2026 day. The token lives on Ethereum, yet only about 0.06% of that day's trading ran through its on-chain pools, so the move played out on centralized exchanges' order books.

NCT's late-October close on CoinMarketCap was $0.01272, up from $0.008928 a day earlier, and CoinGecko's daily series puts the gain at 40.69%. CoinMarketCap logged $25.53 million of volume that day, 113 times the $225,300 of the day before. The token's Ethereum pools held about $18,000 of liquidity in late October 2026. It was NCT's third-largest one-day gain of 2026 to late October.

What Is PolySwarm?

PolySwarm sells malware scanning to security teams, from multi-engine file and URL scans to YARA-based threat hunting and a sandbox for behavioral analysis. Its site's 2026 footer names the company behind it as Swarm Technologies Inc.

The marketplace came before the product menu. PolySwarm's own history page dates its alpha test network to April 2018 and version 1.0 to 31 December 2018. That release put outside engines on its operational network and began a staged move to real ETH and NCT. Version 2.0 followed on 29 July 2019 with threat hunting and URL scanning.

NCT is the token that ties those engines together. Security teams fund bounties and engines stake NCT on their answers. That bounty-and-stake loop is the demand side of NCT's tokenomics, the subject of Phemex Academy's guide to how the internal economy of crypto works.

Anyone shopping for PolySwarm crypto wants the Ethereum token whose contract is named Nectar. The ticker is shared, since NCT crypto can also mean Toucan's Nature Carbon Tonne or NameChangeToken, and a plain "NCT" search mostly finds the K-pop group of that name.

NCT barely moved for the first 16 hours of the day, holding near $0.009 on CoinGecko's hourly series. The climb came in the last eight hours, and the day's highest hourly price printed in its final hour.

The on-chain market hardly took part. GeckoTerminal's day bars put that day's trading in the token's Ethereum pools at about $15,700, so almost every dollar of the reported volume changed hands off chain.

Neither PolySwarm's website, including its What's New and marketplace pages, nor its GitHub organisation carried an announcement that explains the move. So the record shows when and where the buying happened and leaves the why open.

The two bigger gains of 2026 to late October came on 26 August (287.2%) and 22 April (54.93%). The late-October move left NCT at its highest close since 31 August, though that close stood 32.43% below the 26 August close.

Method: the ranking compares each of NCT's 296 daily closes on CoinMarketCap in 2026 to late October with the close before it. CoinGecko's daily series puts the same three days on top. The on-chain total adds GeckoTerminal's day bars for the three pools with recorded trades. CoinGecko's own volume figure for the day was 111 times the previous day's, against CoinMarketCap's 113.

How Does PolySwarm Work?

Every scan opens a small contest. PolySwarm's marketplace page says that when an artifact is submitted for scanning, "a bounty is automatically attached", and that bounty pays detection engines to look at the file or URL.

Each engine then returns a verdict and "stakes NCT tokens on its assertion, putting skin in the game". PolySwarm's PolyScore system combines those verdicts and weights each engine by its past accuracy. After about two weeks the network settles on a final answer. PolySwarm calls that answer ground truth consensus. Engines that called it right earn rewards, and wrong ones lose the NCT they staked.

The same marketplace page claims more than 35 active engines and more than a million scans a day. It gives no figure for the NCT staked on verdicts or paid out in bounties. So the page doesn't show how much of the token the scanning business uses.

Is PolySwarm Dead?

PolySwarm isn't dead, since its developers shipped version 4.7.0 of the polyswarm-cli command-line tool in late October 2026. That was the tool's third release in about five weeks, after 4.5.0 on 15 September and 4.6.0 in early October, according to the polyswarm-cli releases on GitHub.

PolySwarm news from the project in late October 2026 was plain product work. Version 4.7.0 adds a setting that controls how many days back a historical malware hunt reaches. PolySwarm's site also says its research team publishes two threat reports a week, each with a short video summary.

The notes for all three releases leave NCT out entirely, so nothing in them ties the software work to the token's late-October jump.

PolySwarm (NCT) Tokenomics

NCT's supply is fixed at 1.886 billion tokens, all of it minted between February and March 2018 and tradable since transfers opened on 29 March 2018. The sale contract's own records split that supply three ways.

2018 allocation
NCT
Share of supply
Presale buyers
1,132,219,712.58
60.04%
Public sale
318,482,653.46
16.89%
Project wallet at finalization
435,210,709.81
23.08%

The public sale ran from 20 February to 22 March 2018 and raised about 8,602 ETH. Finalizing it on 22 March sent the project's wallet a fresh 30% on top of everything minted until then, and that's where the 23.08% comes from.

CoinMarketCap counted about 412,000 fewer NCT as circulating than the contract's total in late October 2026, a gap of 0.02%. That leaves new minting as the only dilution risk of the kind covered in circulating supply vs total supply.

Can Anyone Mint More NCT?

The token's mint switch was never turned off, but only one address can use it, and that address is the finalized 2018 sale contract. Its presale minting stopped when the sale opened, buying ended on 22 March 2018 and finalization can run only once.

The sale contract's code also has no function that hands the token's ownership to a new address, so the supply can't grow. Mint authority is one of the checks in how to audit a token contract for mint functions, and NCT's answer comes from code that hasn't changed since 2018.

Method: simulated calls from the sale contract's owner to its finalize, presale-mint and cancel functions all revert at the last block before the late-October close. A control transfer simulated at the same block goes through.

The five largest addresses held 52.72% of all NCT at the late-October close, and an explorer labels one of the five as an exchange wallet.

How to Buy PolySwarm (NCT) Safely

Phemex delisted its NCT/USDT spot pair in December 2022, two months after listing it, so these checks apply wherever you buy the token.

  1. Match the Ethereum contract 0x9e46a38f5daabe8683e10793b06749eef7d733d1 before you swap, and check that the token reads Nectar with 18 decimals.

  2. Skip any NCT on BNB Chain, because at least one copy there calls itself PolySwarm with 9 decimals and about 2 quadrillion tokens. That's more than a million times the real supply.

  3. Check a pool's liquidity before you size a trade, since the token's Ethereum pools are thin and a few thousand dollars can move the on-chain price sharply.

  4. Hold the tokens in a non-custodial wallet you control, and send a small test amount before any large transfer.

Phemex's futures markets use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.

What Are the Risks of PolySwarm?

Thin Pools Can't Absorb a Big Seller

On the day of the jump, almost all of NCT's trading ran on centralized order books, and the token's Ethereum pools are small. Even the fifth-largest holder's stake came to about $2.09 million at the late-October close, so the pools couldn't absorb a full exit by any of the five largest addresses.

Big NCT Jumps Have Reversed Fast

NCT gained more than 40% on three earlier days of 2026 on CoinMarketCap, and each time its close was lower within two days. The 26 August jump gave back 20.01% the next day, and the 22 April jump lost 25.44%, each measured from the jump day's close.

The NCT Ticker Isn't Unique

A wallet or swap search for "NCT" can return the carbon token, NameChangeToken or the BNB Chain copy before the real one. For NCT the first check is the Ethereum contract in the steps above. The guide on how to identify a scam token project adds blockchain explorers to that routine.

Is PolySwarm a Good Investment?

NCT is a high-risk holding, because its late-October price was set on centralized order books and five addresses held more than half of the supply at that close.

What would have to be true: the marketplace would need to publish how much NCT its engines stake and earn. That figure would then need to grow with the scan counts the company claims.

What the dated data shows: the whole supply was worth about $24.0 million at the late-October close, and the contract shows no NCT minted since March 2018.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does PolySwarm do?

PolySwarm runs a malware-scanning marketplace for security teams. Each submitted file or URL carries a bounty, and engines stake NCT on their verdicts. After about two weeks the network settles the answer, and accurate engines earn rewards while wrong ones lose their stake.

What is NCT crypto?

NCT is PolySwarm's ERC-20 token on Ethereum, named Nectar in its contract. Its supply of about 1.886 billion was minted in February and March 2018, and unrelated tokens on other chains share its ticker.

Why is PolySwarm going up?

NCT's close jumped 42.46% in one day in late October 2026 on CoinMarketCap, with volume 113 times the day before. Almost none of that trading touched its Ethereum pools, and PolySwarm's website and GitHub gave no reason for the rise.

Bottom Line

PolySwarm's product and NCT's price ran on separate tracks in late October 2026. The developers shipped a command-line release the day before the token jumped, and the jump left almost no mark on chain. A buyer of NCT is betting on centralized order books far more than on scan volume.
