What Is Amp (AMP)? Flexa's Payment Collateral Token

Key Points

What is AMP crypto? Amp backs Flexa's instant payments on Ethereum, and it rose 56% from late September to mid-October as its pooled collateral shrank.

Ask what is AMP crypto and the answer is Amp (AMP), Flexa's payment collateral token on Ethereum, which closed mid-October 2026 56% above its late-September close. Over the same stretch, the AMP held in the vault that backs Flexa's payments fell 1.3%, a sign the rally came from trading in the token.

The gains came in bursts. AMP rose 62.5% in a single day in late September 2026, its largest one-day gain of the year in CoinMarketCap's daily closes, on volume 44 times the previous day's. Four more days of 10% or more followed in October, and the token ended the run at its highest close since that first jump.

What Is Amp (AMP)?

Amp is an ERC-20 token that Flexa and Consensys developed in 2020 to guarantee payments. Flexa's Capacity pagecalls it a fixed-supply asset "reserved exclusively for collateral use cases," so shoppers pay with other coins while AMP stands behind the payment.

The problem it solves is an old one for any shop that takes crypto. The merchant either waits for the network to confirm a payment or accepts the risk that it never arrives, as Flexa's Capacity v3 announcement puts it. Flexa was founded in 2018 and covers that gap with pooled AMP, so the merchant is paid in its own currency the moment the shopper pays.

Flexa handed stewardship of the Amp ecosystem to the Acronym Foundation in 2023, its June 2026 leadership postsays. The Acronym team went on to build Anvil, the collateral protocol whose vault took in Flexa's pooled AMP from 2025. Phemex Academy's page on what collateral mobility is covers the wider idea of moving pledged assets between parties on shared rails.

AMP closed mid-October 56.39% above its late-September close, climbing from $0.0005053 to $0.0007902 on CoinMarketCap's daily data. Over the same stretch the AMP held in Anvil's collateral vault fell 1.34% against its late-September balance, from 20.78 billion tokens to 20.50 billion.

That drop of 279 million AMP is the tell, because Flexa's pools keep their collateral in that vault. A rally driven by payment demand would show up as more AMP pooled. The balance moved the other way. The vault's AMP was worth $10.50 million at the late-September close and $16.20 million at the mid-October one. That 54% gain came from the price alone.

Five of the nine daily gains of 10% or more that AMP logged in 2026 through the mid-October close came in this run. After the late-September jump, it added 18.7% in early October and then 14.9%, 10.4% and 11.9% on three days in mid-October.

The coins built for payments went the other way. On Phemex's daily closes over the same window, XRP fell 16.67% and Stellar's XLM fell 19.27%, while Bitcoin slipped 2.36%.

Flexa's newsroom posted nothing between its July 2026 Europe launch and the mid-October close, and amp.xyz carries price and pool figures with no announcement. The project's X accounts are a separate channel and aren't covered here.

Anvil's own press page does carry an early-October 2026 report that Founders Fund led a $5 million purchase of Anvil's ANVL token. That sale was in ANVL, and Anvil's vault held less AMP at the mid-October close than on the day of the report.

Method: AMP's total supply and the vault's balance come from Ethereum contract calls at the last block of each day, matched on a second node and against Ethplorer's holder index, with prices from CoinMarketCap's daily closes.

How Does Amp Work?

Flexa runs a separate collateral pool for each app or network it supports, and AMP holders choose which pools to back. Each pool's AMP stands behind the payments made through that app, and Flexa says those transfers take less than 500 milliseconds.

Since Capacity v3 launched in February 2025, Flexa's pools have kept their collateral in Anvil's vault contract, which Anvil's core contracts overview says holds and accounts for all protocol collateral. Getting AMP back out takes time. Flexa's v3 post puts the wait at 12 to 24 hours after a holder asks for the release.

The pool's claimant holds the other key. Anvil's guide to time-based collateral pools defines the claimant as the account allowed to claim pooled collateral "to back payments" and other obligations, and it names Flexa as a user that guarantees its settlements this way. The AMP stays claimable until the end of the epoch after a holder asks to leave.

Holders pool AMP for the rewards. When Flexa uses collateral to secure a transfer, its providers earn "pro-rata, time-weighted Amp rewards" that are paid out monthly.

What Is AMP Crypto Used For?

AMP crypto's main use is guaranteeing payments on Flexa's network. Shoppers pay with the coins or stablecoins in their wallets, and the pooled AMP covers the merchant while the transfer settles on its own chain.

That puts AMP behind the same checkout that crypto payment cards target. Phemex Academy's piece on crypto payment cards and how stablecoins bring crypto closer to everyday spending shows the card side of that market.

Flexa asks holders to judge the risk of each app and network they back, and it pays up to twice the usual rewards on the pools it boosts each month. So the Flexa AMP relationship runs both ways, with Flexa renting the collateral and holders choosing where it goes.

AMP Tokenomics

AMP's total supply stood at 99.72 billion tokens at the mid-October close. The verified contract mints new AMP only through a swap that takes in Flexacoin (FXC) and sends it to a dead address. About 279.7 million FXC has yet to be swapped, which caps AMP just under 100 billion.

The same code has no function to burn tokens and none to pause or freeze them. ConsenSys Diligence audited the AMP contracts in June 2020 and marked both major issues it found as fixed.

Anvil's vault held 20.5 billion AMP at the mid-October close, or 20.56% of supply, and Ethplorer's holder index ranks it as the largest single holder.

CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko both report 89.78 billion AMP in circulation, a figure CoinMarketCap's daily data has carried unchanged since early July 2026. That circulating figure both trackers report sits 9.94 billion below the chain's total supply.

Is AMP Crypto Dead?

No, AMP crypto is a working token with a weak price. It closed mid-October 57.82% under its 2025 closing price of $0.001874, and 113.3% above its 2026 closing low of $0.0003704 from mid-August.

The company behind it keeps expanding. Flexa named cofounder Trevor Filter CEO in June 2026, and in July 2026 it launched across Europe, adding 37 countries and territories that settle in euros over SEPA.

That Europe post pitches Flexa as a platform for moving "digital assets and stablecoins," and Phemex Academy's guide to what stablecoins are covers the second of those.

How to Buy AMP Safely

Phemex ended AMP/USDT spot trading in July 2024 under a delisting notice dated that month, so these checks apply wherever you buy the token.

  1. Match the contract before you buy, because real AMP lives on Ethereum at 0xff20817765cb7f73d4bde2e66e067e58d11095c2 under the verified name Amp.

  2. Check the ticker, since Ampleforth trades as AMPL and AirDAO as AMB, while Google's AMP web pages and the Australian financial group AMP Limited share only the name.

  3. Move the tokens to a wallet you control, and Phemex Academy explains what a non-custodial wallet is and how self-custody works.

  4. Budget for Ethereum fees, because every on-chain move of AMP costs a transaction fee.

Futures use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.

What Are the Risks of AMP?

Pooled AMP Can Be Claimed

Pooling AMP gives Flexa, the pool's claimant, the right to claim it to back a payment. The tokens stay claimable through the whole withdrawal wait. Flexa's Capacity page tells you to pool only collateral you can afford to lose. Anvil governance can also upgrade the logic of every pool at once through a shared beacon contract, and a timelock contract owns the vault.

A Circulating Figure the Chain Doesn't Match

On the trackers' 89.78 billion, AMP's mid-October market value was about $70.95 million. On the chain's 99.72 billion total supply, the same close gives about $78.80 million, so any valuation of AMP depends on which count you use.

A Rally Built on Trading

Each of AMP's five big up days topped out between $0.000817 and $0.000839, and the sharpest ones gave ground fast. The close after the late-September jump fell 19.6%, and the close after the 14.9% day in mid-October fell 11.1%. Through the mid-October close, AMP hadn't closed above $0.00084 since May 2026.

Is AMP a Good Investment?

AMP is a bet on Flexa's payment volume growing fast enough to need more collateral, and the token's own data hasn't shown that yet.

What would have to be true: Flexa's merchants and its new European market would need to push enough volume through the pools that providers add AMP, and the rewards would need to outweigh the 12-to-24-hour exit and the claim risk.

What the dated data shows: Anvil's vault held 0.64% less AMP at the mid-October close than on the eve of Flexa's Europe launch in July 2026. The price ran ahead of the collateral, and a trader buying AMP for the payments story is paying for growth the pools haven't recorded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is amp crypto going up?

AMP's climb from late September to mid-October 2026 came in five daily jumps of 10% or more. The AMP held in Anvil's collateral vault shrank over the same weeks, and Flexa's newsroom carried no new announcement, so the move points to trading in the token.

What does amp coin do?

AMP works as collateral that holders pool behind Flexa's payment network, so a merchant gets a guaranteed payment the moment a shopper pays in crypto. The providers earn AMP rewards whenever Flexa draws on their pool.

What is the AMP token price?

AMP closed mid-October 2026 at $0.0007902 on CoinMarketCap's daily data, 11.86% above the close a day earlier. That close stood more than half below where AMP ended 2025.

Who created Amp?

Flexa and Consensys developed Amp in 2020 as collateral for crypto payments. Stewardship of the token's ecosystem passed from Flexa to the Acronym Foundation in 2023, and Flexa still runs its payment collateral on AMP through Anvil's vault.

Bottom Line

AMP's October rally priced in a payments story that its own collateral didn't tell. Flexa kept building, with a new CEO in June 2026 and a European launch in July, but the AMP held in the collateral vault drifted lower while traders bid the token up. The number to watch is the vault's balance, because a payment-driven rally would show up there first.
