Polkadot Price Analysis: Will DOT Go Up After Runtime 2.5.1?

Key Points

Our Polkadot price analysis finds DOT closed late October 2026 at 1.010 USDT, its seventh lower close in a row, as Runtime Upgrade 2.5.1 executed.

Polkadot's DOT token closed late October 2026 at 1.010 USDT on Phemex's perpetual, its seventh lower close in a row. Its governance executed Runtime Upgrade 2.5.1, maintenance for Asset Hub and Bridge Hub, that day. The Polkadot price fell 1.75% into that close, which left the 200-day average at 1.040 as the first level to win back.

DOT's slide to the late-October close was only the third run of seven or more lower closes in the perpetual's 1,000 daily closes since January 2024. After the two earlier runs, DOT stood lower seven closes later both times. Two cases are not a pattern, though, and Bitcoin fell hard alongside DOT in both of them.

What Happened to Polkadot in Late October?

Late October's Polkadot news included a runtime upgrade passed by on-chain governance. Referendum 1960, titled Runtime Upgrade 2.5.1, set out to "Prepare the Polkadot Asset Hub and Bridge Hub to AHMv2 (Asset Hub Migration v2) and Individuality upgrade."

Voters backed it with about 104.1 million DOT of conviction-weighted ayes against 0.1 DOT, where conviction scales a vote by how long its DOT stays locked. The referendum went from submission to execution in less than two days, all of it in late October.

Asset Hub is the Polkadot chain that hosts these votes, so the referendum authorised the new code there directly and sent a second authorisation to Bridge Hub by a cross-chain message. Both run beside Polkadot's relay chain, the multi-chain design that our explainer on Polkadot and the DOT token walks through.

Asset Hub switched to runtime version 2005001 about an hour after the vote executed and still ran it at the day's last block.

The Polkadot Fellowship governs this code, and its release notes for runtimes 2.5.1 list an update to the Individuality pallets and a deposit on new session-key registrations across the system chains. Keys registered before the change stay deposit-free, and the referendum itself framed the release as preparation for the migration.

The DOT price slid through the same days. Phemex's perpetual fell from 1.152 to 1.010 over the seven closes, a 12.33% drop. Bitcoin's perpetual lost 2.19% over the same closes, so DOT fell more than five times as far.

Has the DOT Price Fallen Like This Before?

Twice in the series that starts in January 2024, and both earlier runs kept going past their seventh lower close. The table sets each run beside Bitcoin over the same closes.

Run of lower closes
DOT over the run
Bitcoin, same closes
10 closes to 5 August 2024
-28.44%
-20.49%
8 closes to 2 June 2026
-14.51%
-13.66%
7 closes to the late-October close
-12.33%
-2.19%

In 2024 the seventh lower close came on 2 August at 5.119. Seven closes later DOT stood at 4.782, down 6.58%. In 2026 that close came on 1 June at 1.159. Seven closes later DOT had fallen 15.96% to 0.974. Both drops ran deeper than a typical DOT week.

Across all 993 seven-close windows in the same series, the mean change was -0.66% and the median -1.64%, and 42.4% of those windows ended higher.

Two cases can't carry a rule, and the table's last column adds a second caveat. Bitcoin fell hard through both earlier runs and lost far less through this one, which makes the late-October slide the first of the three without a deep Bitcoin fall beside it.

Method: a run counts consecutive daily closes on Phemex's DOTUSDT perpetual, each one below the close before it, and the event is the run's seventh lower close. The forward change runs from that close to the close seven days later, and the base rate repeats it for every seven-close window in the series. CoinGecko's daily closes show the same seven lower closes into the late-October close.

What Are DOT's Key Price Levels?

Every level you'll see in this section is a close, an intraday low or an average from the perpetual's daily bars, measured at the late-October close. The Polkadot (DOT) price page on Phemex carries the live chart beside them.

Support

The late-October bar dipped to 0.998 during the day, DOT's lowest intraday price since 16 September 2026. Below it, the 15 September 2026 close of 0.945 was the last close under 1.010 before the slide, on a day DOT traded as low as 0.934. The September low close of 0.868, from 2 September 2026, was the next floor down.

Resistance

The 200-day average of 1.040 was the first ceiling, 2.93% above the close. The 50-day average of 1.140 came next, 12.83% above the close, with the 1.152 close where the slide began a little higher. DOT needed a 24.85% gain to get back to 1.261, its highest close of October to the late-October close, set in early October 2026.

Moving Averages

The 50-day crossed above the 200-day in early October 2026, a golden cross that still stood at the late-October close. Price had already dropped under both lines. The slide's third lower close was DOT's first under the 50-day since 30 August 2026, and its last two closes fell under the 200-day as well, the first closes under it since 17 September 2026.

RSI and MACD

The 14-day RSI closed late October at 36.17, under its 50 midline and above the 30 mark that traders read as oversold. Before the late-October close it had last closed under 30 on 1 July 2026, and the academy page on how to trade Bitcoin with the RSI indicator explains both marks.

MACD, the gap between the 12-day and 26-day exponential averages, finished at -0.02628 against a signal line of -0.00647. It had stayed under that signal since a bearish cross on 30 September 2026, right through the early-October rally.

Will Polkadot Go Up?

Nobody can promise that DOT goes up, and at the late-October close the chart leaned down, with price under both averages and momentum under its midline.

If you're watching for a turn, a close back above the 200-day would be the first sign of one, since DOT lost that line only on the slide's last two closes. That average stood at 1.040 at the late-October close. Reclaiming the 50-day, then 1.140, would put the price back near the level where the slide began.

The seven-close record ran lower both times, though two cases make a thin record to lean on.

What to watch: Referendum 1954, a Wish For Change vote on a DOT DAO strategy mandate, was still in its deciding period at the late-October close.

Longer-range scenarios belong to our Polkadot price prediction for 2026 to 2030, written in early September 2026 on the closes of that time.

How to Trade DOT on Phemex

Phemex lists DOT on the DOTUSDT perpetual and on two spot pairs, DOT/USDT and DOT/USDC. The step-by-step page on how to buy Polkadot (DOT) on Phemex covers card and bank purchases.

  1. Open a Phemex account and fund it with USDT.

  2. Pick the DOTUSDT perpetual from the futures menu, where leverage runs up to 50x and funding settles every eight hours.

  3. Set your stop near one of the support levels above, such as the 0.998 low of the late-October bar.

  4. Use the DOT/USDT or DOT/USDC spot pair if you want a position with no funding and no liquidation.

Futures use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.

What Are the Risks of Holding DOT?

The migration itself is a later step. Runtime 2.5.1 did not run it but readied Asset Hub and Bridge Hub for the migration's second version. The release notes show how much the order of upgrades matters, warning that DOT forwarded from the Coretime chain is lost if Asset Hub has not upgraded first. Later steps of a multi-chain migration can carry sequencing of that kind.

DOT's 2026 loss was deep at the late-October close. If you hold DOT, you hold a token whose perpetual finished late October 2026 43.54% below its 2025 closing price of 1.789. That close was also 55.72% under 2.281, its highest close of 2026 to late October, set in January.

New supply keeps arriving. DOT's issuance follows a capped schedule that still mints new tokens each year, and how far Polkadot can fall before its supply cap bites weighs what that means for price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Polkadot crypto dead?

Polkadot's chain was running and upgrading in late October 2026. Its governance executed Runtime Upgrade 2.5.1, and Asset Hub ran the new code about an hour later. That describes the network, while the token is a separate question, and DOT closed late October at 1.010 USDT.

Is Polkadot a good investment?

This page gives no advice on what to buy. The record shows DOT 43.54% below its 2025 closing price by late October 2026, after seven lower closes in a row. The migration work ahead and the size of the year's fall are the risks to weigh.

What is the DOT price?

DOT's Phemex perpetual closed late October 2026 at 1.010 USDT, down 1.75% on the day and 12.33% over seven lower closes. That close finished under the 50-day average of 1.140 and the 200-day average of 1.040.

Did Runtime Upgrade 2.5.1 move the Polkadot price?

The daily closes can't tie the two together. DOT fell 1.75% on the day the upgrade executed while Bitcoin's perpetual closed that day flat, and the release itself prepared Asset Hub and Bridge Hub for a migration step.

Bottom Line

A near-unanimous upgrade vote and a seven-close slide landed together in late October, and only the slide shows on the chart. Bitcoin fell hard through both earlier slides this long and lost about 2% through this one, so the two earlier cases make a weak guide to the late-October slide.

For a slide that Bitcoin barely shared, the first line to watch was the 200-day average, 1.040 at the late-October close.
