Key Points

Discover Gilles Fedak, the iExec CEO and co-founder behind XtremWeb, and explore his impact on decentralized computing and RLC token’s journey. Learn more now.

Gilles Fedak is the co-founder and CEO of iExec who spent more than a decade as a distributed-computing researcher before founding the company in October 2016. His company's token RLC closed 5 October 2026 up 99.03% on the day on CoinMarketCap, and on 6 October the company's blog showed no post after 23 July 2026.

Of the 182 posts the blog held on 6 October, the last to name Fedak went up on 7 June 2024. The newest release we found calling him chief executive went out from Paris on 23 May 2025. So RLC nearly doubled in a day while the blog of the company he runs carried no word of the move, or of him.

Who Is Gilles Fedak?

Gilles Fedak is a computer scientist who co-founded iExec in 2016 after a research career spent pooling idle computers into grids for large parallel jobs. His company's protocol lets applications run "on data they never see," in the words of its own site, and it records an on-chain proof of every run.

Each app runs inside an Intel TDX enclave on an independent worker machine, and RLC is the network's native token. If you rent computing power from machines you don't own, you're using the model our guide to DePIN and decentralized infrastructure in 2025 maps out. Fedak has published research on versions of it since 2002.

Gilles Fedak's Career and Education

Fedak earned his PhD in computer science at Université Paris 11 in 2003 with a thesis on XtremWeb directed by Franck Cappello. XtremWeb gathered idle computers on the Internet or a local network to run massively parallel applications. The thesis abstract says a desktop grid built on it was deployed within the University Paris-Sud campus.

A search of HAL, France's open research archive, returns 69 of his documents. Paris-Sud's LRI computer science lab appears on his papers from 2002 to 2010. Inria appears from 2005 to 2018, including on 2009 and 2010 papers linking XtremWeb to Europe's EGEE grid. ENS Lyon's LIP lab appears from 2008 to 2018. The newest, a 2022 note on zero-knowledge proofs, gives his company in Lyon as his only affiliation.

In 2012 he co-edited the book Desktop Grid Computing with Christophe Cérin, and its publisher places him at INRIA and the University of Lyon. His HAL CV lists his habilitation, France's qualification to direct doctoral research, defended at ENS Lyon on 28 May 2015.

Six weeks later, on 8 July 2015, Anthony Simonet defended a thesis Fedak directed at ENS Lyon on managing the life cycle of large scientific data sets.

How Gilles Fedak Founded iExec

France's company register dates LUHA (IEX.EC) to 1 October 2016, when it opened its first head office in Lyon. It names Gilles Fedak as its président, and it shows LUHA as président of iExec Blockchain Tech, a Lyon company created on 9 September 2024.

Four months after LUHA's creation, on 7 February 2017, Fedak presented his project to the Avalon team in Lyon. The team's event page says the project "leverages a set of research technologies that have been developed at INRIA and CNRS" in desktop grid computing. It names XtremWeb-HEP as the desktop-grid software the project connects to the blockchain.

The public sale of RLC came on 19 April 2017. A conference page from the same team billing a keynote by Fedak says the company raised 10,000 bitcoins that day. Our guide to how an ICO differs from an IEO lays out that fundraising model.

The company's own announcements call him its chief executive. Its post of 15 October 2020 reports a visa from France's market regulator for a token swap offering built on an enterprise version of RLC. It signs his quote "Gilles Fedak, CEO".

The newest page we found that names him chief executive is a release issued from Paris on 23 May 2025. It calls him "co-founder and Chief Executive Officer" and quotes him on "increasing RLC's utility and growing its value".

What Is iExec RLC Doing Under Gilles Fedak? His Company's Work in 2026

In 2026, the company under Gilles Fedak has moved its network off its own sidechain and onto Arbitrum, and it's building confidential-finance products on Intel TDX.

A post of 11 June 2026 set 2 July 2026 for the shutdown of the RLC bridge between Ethereum and Bellecour, the company's own sidechain. The same post says the network is live on Arbitrum. It adds that Nox, its confidentiality layer for on-chain finance, runs on Arbitrum and Ethereum test networks.

The Confidential Token that the company announced on 1 April 2026 wraps any ERC-20 token so balances and transfer amounts stay encrypted. It uses the ERC-7984 standard on Intel TDX and ran as a demo on Arbitrum Sepolia at launch. The post says that as usage grows, part of protocol revenue is converted into RLC through an automated buyback.

A post of 23 July 2026 explains runtime attestation for Nox, which lets anyone verify that a live machine runs the expected code inside a genuine Intel TDX trust domain. That kind of proof is what our explainer on verifiable AI and cryptographic proofs covers.

None of the 18 posts the blog published in 2026 names Fedak, and that 23 July post is the newest of them.

Why Are People Searching for Gilles Fedak?

Gilles Fedak's name travels with his company's token, which topped CoinGecko's trending list on 6 October. RLC had closed 5 October at $0.7242, up 99.03% on the day on CoinMarketCap's daily series.

The move came 74 days after the company's last blog post, so nothing on that blog explains it, and this page doesn't guess at a cause.

Phemex's RLC price page still tracks the token, though Phemex's product list on 6 October showed both of its RLC trading pairs as delisted.

If you held one of those pairs, our explainer on what happens when a coin is delisted covers what a delisting changes for you.

How we built this: the biography comes from French thesis and research archives, his research team's pages and the company register, read on 6 October 2026. Company facts come from the company's own posts and releases and the price from CoinMarketCap's 5 October daily close, and every figure was traced to its source in a separate review before publication.
