Plasma has published a technical article detailing its Torch validator handover mechanism built on the Fast-HotStuff consensus protocol. The design enables seamless transitions without requiring overlapping members between adjacent validator committees, eliminating the need for additional communication rounds or block production pauses during handovers.
The team noted that message transmission overhead increases during the handover process under this architecture. A dynamic epoch boundary solution mentioned in the disclosure has not yet been launched and remains under peer review, with a formal whitepaper and machine-checked proofs scheduled for release later this year.
