OpenAI is rolling out native GIF generation capabilities to ChatGPT, allowing users to create animated images from text prompts or uploaded photos. The new feature enables playback speed adjustment and frame-by-frame viewing and editing. The update arrives alongside the launch of OpenAI's new Images 2.6 model, available across web, desktop, and mobile platforms for both ChatGPT and Codex. On the API side, OpenAI introduced GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and Sunburst variants. The company reported that ChatGPT and its API now generate over 4 billion images per week, up from approximately 3 billion announced in September.
