The International Monetary Fund abandoned plans to appoint London School of Economics professor Ricardo Reis as chief economist after concerns over his public criticism of Trump’s tariff policy, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The IMF had planned to name Reis before dropping the choice shortly before the announcement. The fund ultimately appointed former Bank of England official Silvana Tenreyro to the role in July.
