A Paris Criminal Court sentenced a former employee of crypto platform Holograph Foundation to five years in prison, with two years to be served, for illegally creating and stealing 1 billion HLG tokens worth approximately $14 million. The defendant was convicted on charges including unauthorized access to an automated data processing system, organized fraud, money laundering, and participation in a criminal association.
Between May and August 2024, the man tampered with token generation rules to mint the stolen tokens, which were subsequently transferred to multiple exchange accounts by two accomplices. One accomplice received a two-year sentence with 14 months suspended plus an €80,000 fine, while the other received a two-year suspended sentence and a €40,000 fine. The court also rejected Holograph Foundation's claim for compensation related to the token's price decline, citing insufficient evidence linking the drop directly to the fraud.
