Former Ethereum Foundation developer Dankrad Feist has proposed the creation of an independent entity with a minimum funding of $1 billion to support Ethereum's value. This initiative comes amid dissatisfaction with the Ethereum Foundation's management, which currently holds less than 0.1% of the total ETH supply. Feist, known for his Danksharding scalability design, suggests that the new organization should be economically aligned with the Ethereum community and led by a board accountable to it.
The proposal follows recent resignations of key researchers, including Carl Beek and Julian Ma, and highlights a perceived lack of economic incentives in the current administration. Feist's plan includes using revenues from Ethereum's staking mechanism to fund the entity, aiming to drive the cryptocurrency's market performance. The Ethereum Foundation, operating on a non-profit basis, does not currently receive revenue from transaction fees or staking. The community is now considering governance mechanisms to formally present this proposal in future discussions.
