Developer Martin De Vido has demonstrated a multi-agent AI system capable of autonomously designing and sourcing physical hardware components. Operating under the "living factory" concept, a team of specialized Claude AI agents manages a tomato grow tent, with one agent identifying missing sensor requirements and delegating circuit design specifications to another agent. A separate shopping agent then autonomously orders the necessary parts for human assembly and integration into the system.
The project illustrates AI moving beyond digital tasks to execute closed-loop physical production cycles, transitioning from conceptual idea to tangible object. While human intervention is currently required for milling and assembly, the framework establishes a functional pipeline where AI systems identify hardware gaps, engineer solutions, and procure components independently, pointing toward future scalability with robotic manufacturing.
