Blockchain researcher ZachXBT has identified a Canadian scammer, known as Haby (Havard), who defrauded victims of over $2 million by impersonating Coinbase. The scam involved sophisticated social engineering tactics, with the perpetrator using the stolen funds for luxury purchases and gambling. The Abbotsford-based scammer is also linked to filing false police reports. ZachXBT's investigation traced the fraudulent activities through wallet addresses and social media, highlighting the scammer's extensive operations. This case follows a similar incident in August, where a separate attack resulted in a loss of 783 BTC, valued at approximately $91 million.
